Transamerica Pyramid

San Francisco, CA

Taylor Engineers was brought onto the Transamerica lobby and amenities project in 2020 and have since become the building design engineer, completing nearly 20 floors of tenant improvement projects. The building was repositioned with a significant investment, including a major renovation of the 1st level of parking, lobby, three amenity floors, annex space, and a top-floor bar and event space. Taylor Engineers was brought in to provide creative and well-executed solutions to an ambitious architectural design by Foster + Partners in the iconic existing building.

The lobby was transformed and is now served by radiant heating and cooling in a new topping slab. The annex space (currently used as a gallery) was completely redone. Thermal comfort modeling was performed to understand how to best mitigate the solar impact of the existing glass roof. Amenities spaces included a gym, spa, leasing gallery, and locker rooms.

Taylor Engineers has also provided multiple central plant analyses and recommendations for base building system upgrades, including potential electrification. The building is currently served by a co-generation plant that provides electrical demand charge reduction and heating hot water for the building.
