CSU San Bernardino Performing Arts

San Bernardino, California

The Performing Arts Building is two-story building with a partial basement built in 1977 with about 42,070 sqft of conditioned area. It is located on the California State University San Bernardino campus. The building consists of a 250-seat main theater (Ronald E. Barnes Theatre), a 175-seat experimental stage, asceneshop, and various classrooms and offices.

The Performing Arts Building underwent a renovation of its HVAC system in 2016.The existing system had consisted of four multi-zone air handlers and one single-zone air handler, none of which had economizers. The multi-zone units were constant volume and had hot decks and cold decks. The control at the zone level was pneumatic. This renovation included replacing all five air handling units, adding variable air volume (VAV)terminal units with reheat, replacing the chilled and heating hot water pumps, replacing certain return and exhaust fans, and converting all controls to DDC. The project also included a lighting retrofit and a fire alarm system upgrade.
