995 Santa Clara, EPIC Reimagining

Santa Clara, CA

The CEC Epic Reimagining project is a multi-year research and design project centered around the multifamily residential sector. Taylor Engineers was part of a large team of experts that researched emerging building technologies appropriate for this sector, including MEP systems, architectural systems, and microgrid solutions. TE was also responsible for putting together SD and DD drawings for the real project at 995 Santa Clara.

The EPIC grant required that the building use no grid power from 4-9 pm each day and be able to run essential services in definitely during a power outage. Through energy modeling (EnergyPlus), optimization tools (Xendee), and whole life carbon analysis, the team was able to select solutions and approaches that were both achievable in real life and largely cost effective today.
